Old Anime You Should Watch Because It Is Good And I Said So

In case you can’t quite spot what the above picture is of, the anime you should watch is Medabots. A story of a world where everyone has a Megaman like assistant to do battle with. Guns, swords, breasts, small robots, giant robots; what more could you need?

This is a show about a boy named Ikki (red kid on the left), who goes from a small town kid with no Medabot, to being a world Medabot championship contender, to a kid who has to foil a plot to save the world from the evil clutches of the rubberobo gang.

Don’t let the rubber suits and golden antennae fool you, they are devious and quite evil. If you can’t tell by now, the show doesn’t take itself seriously much at all, but that’s the beauty of it, you never then really know what’s going to come up next, like for example…

They decide to throw in a super attack that only some Medabots can do, and then throw in some weird plot about the creation of these battle robot servants being thousands of years ago. All of it can just be watched and and enjoyed, since there’s enough action to break up any real silliness.

Even with all the clichés, and bad jokes, and overused lines (definitely watch the English dub). It’s a great show. It has some funny stereotypical characters (Team Mexico is just 3 guys in Sombreros and Cowboy movie get ups and can only say AMIGO AMIGO), and a few interesting semi-original ones (Mr. Referee is the most badass referee ever, and the Phantom Renegade and Space Medafighter X make masks awesome). The plot might not be great, the animation, odd at times, but overall, this not so well known Saturday-morning-on-Fox anime, is quite good, well, at least the first 52 episodes.
