First female post on the new JerkPop–ZOMG! While perusing through the bookstore and passing by the manga section this just leaped out at me:  Star Trek: The Manga. It begged to be picked up, looked at, and written about.  As if neither manga or Star Trek was nerdy enough, the people at TokyoPop felt the need to merge the two (clearly they’re just a bunch a Trekkies) to create the ultimate nerd entertainment. Well known and favorite characters such as Captain Kirk, Spock, and Scotty have now been transfered from the tv screen to paper; their handrawn selves bear a strong resemblance to their live characters. Currently three volumes have been released, each containing about four different adventures. Briefly skimming the first adventure of volume one revealed a dangerous and exciting villian: a female human-esque robot of sorts infused with the genetic material of NINE different species; don’t worry guys, she still has pretty normal looking boobs.  Accompanying her is an evil army of similarly gentically and mechanically altered beings. That’s just the start. I’m sure there are more lasers, aliens/creatures, space ships, and beaming ups by Scotty involved  What kind of nerd would you be if you didn’t pick this up?

For a while now, LOLDONGS has been a staple of the Japanator IRC. Though in the past LOLDONGS has faced adversity, B&, and total disrespect, today LOLDONGS is a shining star of our little corner of the internet. For the return of Jerkpop, I caught up with *the* Sir Lol Dong for an interview. All I can say here is that, it was interesting. Catch it after the jump!

In New Zealand recently, a judge ruled against parents naming children stupid names. The child in question was named Talula Does The Hula, and she was from Hawaii. After the judge ruled in her favor, he proceeded to yell at the parents (I exaggerate, of course), and set a precedence on child naming in New Zealand. Now children may not be named Fish and Chips, Yeah Detroit, Keenan Got Lucy and Sex Fruit, he said. But others were allowed, including Number 16 Bus Shelter “and tragically, Violence,” he said.

What I want to know, is what would you name your child if you could name him/her anything?

Apparently I can post now. I must have missed that. At any rate, here I am.

As a long-term #Japanator regular, I’ve watched Jerkpop grow from being a crazy idea to where it is today. At one point it was going to be an audio drama. Maybe it’s for the best that we’ve ended up here… Of course, why would I try to explain what it is I’m about with words when a simple image would suffice?
