OMG movie news!

I cannot WAIT for this movie.  I loved the first Transporter movie.  The perfect action movie in my book.  Fast cars, kicking ass, and…AZN?  The second movie sucked.  It came during the time of crappy, not possible action like knocking a bomb from the bottom of a car by doing a cork screw and hitting the bottom of the car on a crane.  And he was transporting a kid.  Boring.  But this one is looking good, and I have a trailer.

Why So Deep-Voiced, Christian Bale?

August 22nd, 2008 by Bakuryu
Tags:, , , ,

Those of us who saw Dark Knight all had the same complaint about the movie: Christian Bale’s Batman voice was equivalent to a person leaving the dentist’s office full of novocaine who was just punched in the throat. Luckily, someone posted a Youtube video of the interrogation scene between Joker and Batman so that all people may enjoy the terribleness of Christian Bale.

NOTE: Not actually from the movie, so it’s safe to watch those of you who don’t like spoilers.

Stupid Ideas From Stupid People That Make Me Cry Stupid Tears

Now, I would not call myself one of those Rocky Horror obsessives. Never been to a screening with folks in costume nor an actual live performance of the cult classic take on the sexual revolution of the 70s (meets aliens). That said, I do love the movie.

But a remake is now in the works. WTF!? WHY?!

The really weird thing about it is that exec producer for the original film is returning for this one, and Richard O’Brien– who wrote the original musical –is also co-producing this one (he also played Riff-Raff originally, but I’m guessing he won’t repriese that part of the role).

So I guess this is just one of those cases where a bunch of people did something that was really popular once, and they want to do it again, but they can’t actually come up with something new so they just remake the original thing? Or something? Boo. BOOOOOOO.

Insert a variety of “Damnit, Janet” and “let’s NOT do the time warp again” jokes here.

Is It A Sin To Want These?

It was Topless Robot (with delicious news on the long-discussed, never-sold Goonies sequel) who turned my attention to these Goonies-themed sneakers from Puma.

Now, Puma is not a brand I’m generally likely to wear in the first place. And, come on, sneakers? Am I some kind of six-year-old or something?

Apparently the answer is yes, because some deep, dark, sad, Goonies-deprived part of me screams: OH GOD YES! Mostly because they come in a drawstring pirate bag, which I bet I would use more than the actual shoes. And they’ll probably be stupidly expensive when they go on sale in December, too. Phooey!

Brilliant Shit Is F!@#$ing Brilliant

Surprise! I wonder if they forgot that I still have posting rights?

Anyway, I have to tell you: I do not consider myself a Whedonite. I’ve been content to watch a handful of Buffy the Lesbinator or whatever it was called here and there, but never sought it out. Friends have introduced me to Firefly, which again was fun but not something that inspired me to run out and acquire the DVDs to devour.

But then something different happened. Something…horrible. Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, to be exact.

Now, again, as a non-Whedonite I came upon it somewhat late, after the official run of the first three acts of the mini-musical was over (a fourth and I believe final act is in the works). But friends plied me with it, and like a cheap wine, it was mildly, comfortably intoxicating (and not too harmful to my wallet).

But Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog isn’t just incredibly entertaining (especially if you’re the kind of person who likes to, y’know, sing along): it’s an awesome marketing tactic. The episodes were free (for a limited time), and yes, people are passing around all three acts like crazy. But Whedon funded the entire production himself, which has the handy effect of making people want to pay for it to make sure that all the people who created it– who provided entertainment –are rewarded for it. HOW CRAZY IS THAT?

Already t-shirts are up on J!nx, where the Dr. Horrible twitter says there will be additional merch in the near future. And a DVD is in the works with “amazing” extras, including video auditions from fans to enter the Evil League of Evil (Dr. Horrible’s favored villain union) and a musical commentary. Yes, a musical. commentary. Oh, and the episodes are up on iTunes and Hulu for those who missed the original run.

So I implore those of you who may have already illicitly enjoyed the show to go and do so legally, so that we might encourage this kind of insanity in the future. Also, My Little Horrible. Mwahaha.

Children Of Men

August 5th, 2008 by Axia

Has anyone seen this movie? Has anyone read the book? I’m sure at least one or two of you have done either. If you were lucky enough to see the movie in theater upon its release, you would have been in for a fairly surprising ride. The movie starts off slow, but it is chock full of visual and audio cues. From the graffiti and the riots, to the bombing of a coffee shop Clive Owen literally just walked out of, you can tell the world has gone to the crapper.

The premise of the movie is this: No more children are being born. No woman has been pregnant for 18 years, so thusly the youngest person on the planet is 18. They count down the months, days, hours minutes and SECONDS…and then the poor bastard(it was a boy) is killed in some freak accident fight…it’s all over the news and the world mourns the death of the youngest person. The meaning isn’t powerful, but how it affects the people is astounding…

Pirates, you think the ocean, tropics, eye liner, busty women, treasure, funny hats, and lots of alcohol. But how about outer space and ice being that most valuable treasure? There’s really not much to be said. Cheesy 80s goodness with an all-star cast and winning plot. Still included are busty women, crude humor, and men with eye liner. LOLZ.

Plot Summary (via HomeVideos.com) : A futuristic thriller about water, the universe’s most valuable resource. In the midst of all the action involving the quest for water, two space pirates are captured and recruited to help a princess find her lost father; it’s a space-age Western, pirateer operatic adventure, with many a bar fight, swordfight, and villain at large.

The cast includes: Anjelica Huston, Ron Perlman, Michael D. Roberts, Robert
Urich, Mary Crosby, and John Carradine.

Directed by: Stewart Raffill.

The Kara no Kyoukai first DVD has been announced.

Kara no Kyoukai

Just the other day, when I was randomly browsing the Type-Moon website when a single line on their announcements caught my eye.

“■劇場版「空の境界」DVD連続リリース開始!詳しくはINFORMATIONにて”

To be perfectly honest, the only words I can get out of that sentence are “Kara no Kyoukai”, “DVD”, “Release” and “INFORMATION” but that’s really enough to get me interested. This was actually announced on the 13th, but the first DVD for Kara no Kyoukai has been scheduled for release on May the 21st in two packages, one with a whole bunch of special features a box and some other doohickeys, and one with just the first movie on it’s own.

I’m a fan of any Kinoko Nasu work, so I’ve been pretty damn excited about Kara no Kyoukai for a long time now. If I had a credit card of my own I’d snatch up the special edition DVDs right away, regardless of the fact that the DVDs won’t work in my players. Unfortunately I’m not so lucky.

Hopefully when this is released, someone can get it and get on subbing it. Is anyone else here as excited as I am?
