Been a while

It’s been quite some time since I posted anything, and I think it’s time to just back on the failtrain.  While school, work, and vidjya games had me wrapped up last month, I still had time to check the internetz and got bored of that.

Dr. Gordon House

Speaking of school, I had to do an introductory speech on a person, fictinional or not.  That one person had to be our dear friend Dr. Gordon Freeman.  While I did a really crappy job on the speech, I learned some things about Gordon, Barney, and the entire universe itself.  That’s all the boring, dry, and informative stuff that I know you care nothing about.  Here’s the juice, fun stuff that I stumbled across on my joourney for more info on the Free Man:

Twilight, Cosplay, WTF?!

November 11th, 2008 by Lan

So, perusing the forums for Ohayocon, in particular the cosplay thread. There was the usual Soul Eater, Phoenix Wright, Bleach, Naruto, but I have to wonder what the hell is Twilight doing in there?! I’m personally not a fan of the series (because of Stephanie Meyer’s terrible writing not because of the series’ popularity). I try to refrain from bashing it because I know so many people love it, and I don’t wish to die a painful death via rabid fangirls.

However, I cannot understand why the hell anyone would consider “cosplaying” as Twilight characters at an ANIME CON. THERE’S NO COSTUME INVOLVED! Okay, fangs and if you wanna go all out, contact lenses–boom! you’re a vampire. If you’re gonna be a werewolf in wolf form, I could possibly accept that; but for me, it’s not much different from a werewolf Halloween costume. And who’s going to be one anyway? Everyone’s going to either be Bella or Edward or one of his vampire relatives. How can expect anyone to recognize you as one of the characters when you’re wearing regular clothes? You could try replicating the outfits from the movie, but those aren’t any different from your own clothes.

Cosplay for me is distinctly looking like someone other than yourself, particularly a character from a game, anime, manga, or some other Japanese culture. Twilight does not fit into any of those categories. Of all the people you could cosplay as, why the hell would you choose to look like some uncreative, normal looking person from Twilight? And how would you “characterize” them besides going around being e-mo? Actually, what I really want to know is how you go around “dazzling” people? I may have just condemned myself writing this post, but oh well.

So I want you guys’ opinion: Do you think Twilight is a legitimate cosplay? Who would you rather see at an anime con: Darth Vader or a Twilight character? Why?

Dance Break!

Finally having a spare moment from grad school and due to Kuro’s incessant whining, I went in search of things to post (namely youtube videos). Plus, I feel like I should try and balance out the mass amounts of testosterone on the site. So here’s an interesting and pretty amusing cosplay video.

My Winnings!

For those of you who don’t know, I recently won a contest over at Japanator, being randomly chosen out of a group of people who listed the woes of their lives. The prize was either Vol.1 of the Haruhi Suzumiya manga or Vol.1 of the Black Lagoon manga. Here is my prize:

Sadly, I’ve yet to watch the anime, so I’ll need to get on that, and then I’ll let you know how the manga compares.

Jerkpop Review: Infinite Undiscovery

October 21st, 2008 by Bakuryu

So, I finally decided to get off of my lazy ass and write this review (also, there was some difficulty pulling me away from it). Yea, I know it’s been almost two months, but I’ve been busy, so shut it.

Infinite Undiscovery is the latest game by Tri-Ace, developers of the legendary RPG franchises Valkyrie Profile and Star Ocean. The question that must be asked is whether or not it lives up to its predecessors or not. Check after the jump as I undiscover what this game has to offer.

Relationship Troubles Force Saotome Alto to Take Vacation

Strangely enough, he seems to have chosen a public school as a vacation spot, where he played volleyball with the girls. What in God’s name am I talking about? While watching the Lucky Star OVA, I saw this:

The “girl” in that picture bears a striking resemblance to Alto-hime, no? Hit the jump for a picture of Alto-hime for to compare with the above image.

King of Fighters XII - April ‘09 Japan

Welp, a new King of Fighters has been shown off to the public, and it’s looking pretty good.  It doesn’t match the style or smexyness of SF4, but KoF has never done that.  All I hope is that we get it over here, at least on the consoles.

100 Virtual Boys found in a warehouse in Dubai

September 16th, 2008 by Stig-san

A stockpile of the headache/eyestrain machine that is the Virtual Boy has been found while cleaning out a warehouse in Dubai.  That shows how much people cared about the machine.  I don’t care what people say though, I love mine and I still have it.  Do I play it, no, but I have it when I want it…and I get to brag.  So w/e to all ye naysayers, I think it’s been the epitome of 3D (actual 3D) gaming ever.  And it just looks damn cool in its red lined and black background technology.

Unfortunately, ya looked like a dork playing the thing.
